Many people have only used their cell phones for two years and then bought a new one. The contracts of mobile operators favor it, even if a smartphone at this age can still do everything: surf the Internet, play music and take pictures. Business people sell their mostly well-preserved “old smartphones” on Ebay, but as of now most devices survive as “drawer phones”. 199.3 million unused cell phones are in German cupboards, according to a 2020 Bitkom study.
