Necessity is the mother of invention. For the steelmaker Thyssenkrupp, the need turns out to be an excess – of CO₂: the blast furnaces of Duisburg release 20 million tonnes into the air each year. It will take more than two decades for steel production to become climate neutral. So why not recycle the CO₂ into something completely new?
