Media – Vivendi wants Lagardère – Economy

The French media group Vivendi wants to buy out its competitor Lagardère. Vivendi has already acquired more than 25 million shares of Lagardère’s main shareholder, Amber Capital, according to a statement. Paris Match magazine and Europe 1 radio belong to Lagardère. A takeover by Vivendi would create one of the largest media groups in Europe. The Lagardère share price jumped Thursday morning by more than 21% to 23.62 euros. For Vivendi stock, on the other hand, it fell by 1.5%. If the authorities approve the deal with Amber, Vivendi’s stake in Lagardère would rise to more than 30%.
