Insurance: new Axa boss for Germany
By Herbert Fromme, Nuremberg / Neumünster
The German companies of the French insurer Axa will have a new boss from December 2021. Thilo Schumacher, 46, currently responsible for life and health insurance, takes over the post. His predecessor Alexander Vollert, 52, moved to Paris, where he will be responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the group as Chief Operating Officer. With a turnover of 97 billion euros – including 11 billion euros in Germany – Axa is one of the world’s largest suppliers. Schumacher made a name for himself by restructuring the life insurance offering from previous guaranteed interest rate contracts to unit-linked and similar offerings. Vollert’s new job in Paris is not easy. Surprisingly, predecessor Astrid Stange had to leave the Axa just after four years.
