Almost two-thirds of German industrial companies suffer from a lack of materials. From April to July, the proportion of companies concerned increased from 45 to 63.8%, according to the quarterly survey of the Ifo Institute. “Already in the previous quarter, companies reported a record value, which was again clearly exceeded,” said Ifo expert Klaus Wohlrabe. “It could endanger the recovery.” The shortage of semiconductors and chips is particularly noticeable among manufacturers of electrical equipment (84.4%) and among automobile manufacturers and their suppliers (83.4%). The sharp rise in the price of plastic granules is holding back manufacturers of rubber and plastic products (79%). Among machine builders, 70.3% complain about a lack of equipment.
