Hamburg Airport is receiving € 47.3 million in state aid from the corona aid program for German airports which was agreed months ago by the federal and state governments. The authorities in charge of the economy and finances as well as the airport company announced it Friday. The sum, which is borne half by the federal government and half by the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, is intended to cover the so-called detention costs that occurred between March and June 2020 during the first corona lockdown. At that time, airports were kept open at the request of politicians, despite the sharp drop in passenger numbers – so that, for example, German tourists could be brought back from abroad.
