Many investors no longer want to invest in climate-damaging companies or manufacture weapons. Questions like these are often at the center of the financial advice of the consumer advice center. “But gender equality has not yet been an important issue,” explains Barbara Rück, advisor for retirement pensions, investments and real estate financing in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the USA the idea of ​​feminist investments is already more widespread than in Germany. There are various funds that focus on equality. They advertise something like, “This is how you invest in businesses run by women”. We also gladly refer to studies that are supposed to show a positive effect of women in leadership positions. In 2018, consulting firm McKinsey found that the probability of above-average success in German companies doubles when there are many female executives in top management. But can investments ensure greater gender equality?
