About half of the population plays video or computer games at least from time to time. This is the result of a Bitkom poll. According to this, almost as many women (47%) play as men (53%) – and there has recently been an increase in the number of players in all age groups. “The game is helping young and old to get through the corona pandemic,” said Olaf May, member of the Bitkom Presidium. In fact, games appear to be an outlet for corona frustration: 61% of gamers surveyed said without computer games the ceiling would have fallen on their heads during the pandemic. They therefore play longer: playing time has doubled, from five to ten hours per week. The world’s largest gaming fair, Games-com, kicks off this Wednesday as a purely digital event due to the pandemic.
