The frozen food market in Germany has largely recovered from the Corona trough of 2020. For this year, the industry expects sales to increase 5.2 percent to nearly 3.9 million tonnes. Sales are expected to increase 8.8% to 16.4 billion euros. Over the past year, sales and turnover have plummeted because the restaurant industry has purchased far less frozen food.
Since the restaurants reopened, restaurant sales channels have also recovered, the industry association reported. Sales could increase by ten percent to a good 1.7 million tonnes. But that’s less than the pre-Corona 2019 year with almost two million tonnes. The sale of frozen products through food retailers and delivery services will rise again, by 1.5% to over 2.1 million tonnes.
