Equities – Dax crosses the 16,000 point mark – Economy

Delta variant, foreclosure fears, rising inflation, a generally gloomy August on the stock market – and yet investors happily grabbed stocks on Friday. The fear of missing the train seemed too great. The rated with 16,030 points Dax higher than ever. At the close of trading, the leading index gave up some of its earnings and rose 0.3% to 15,977 trading points. Driven by price increases at Zooplus, the S-Dax small cap index rose 1.4% and thus set a new record. Some investors have recently held back in hopes of more favorable purchase prices and are now under pressure, said Thomas Altmann of asset manager QC Partners. Fund managers can quickly find it difficult to explain to their clients if they are not following the market. Others see the breakout of the Dax to highs after the search for direction over the past few weeks as a fundamentally positive signal. They therefore continued to increase their positions in equities.

After the sale of the Reebok sporting goods brand, investors joined Adidas. The group wishes to distribute part of it to its own shareholders, in the form of a dividend or in the form of share buybacks. Adidas shares rose 2.3%, making it the biggest DAX winner. At the top of M-Dax, shares of Gea rose 1.7%. The machine and plant builder presented final quarterly figures. But it was above all the announced share buyback program that was the driving force. At Varta, there were long faces after the growth numbers. Apple’s supplier papers have collapsed by a good ten percent. “The pandemic hit last year in the second quarter and everyone bought the new AirPods Pro like crazy. So from a market perspective there wasn’t a lot of room for further growth,” said Robert-Jan van der Horst, analyst at Warburg Research.

There was a price explosion at online pet supply retailer Zooplus after a buyout offer. Newspapers jumped in the S-Dax by 41% to 392 euros. The American financial investor Hellman & Friedman offers 390 euros in cash per Zooplus share.

There were new records on the US stock exchanges. The two Dow jones as well as the S & P-500 have peaked in the meantime.
