In Germany, the number of unemployed fell sharply in August. According to a survey by the Ifo Institute, this number rose from a good million recently to 688,000 people. Ifo estimates the number on the basis of the monthly business survey and on the basis of data from the Federal Employment Agency. The number of part-time workers is below one million for the first time since the start of the Corona crisis. The institute estimated the proportion of dependent employees who were on short-time work in August at two percent. In July, it was still 3.2%. The hotel industry remains particularly affected, with a share of 10.1%. However, the number has also dropped significantly here.
