E-Transporter: hope for street scooters
Deutsche Post always seems to be finding someone interesting who could take over the production rights to its Streetscooter electric van. At least, Luxembourg-based company Odin Automotive has announced its intention to completely take over Streetscooter Engineering GmbH from Aachen. This is announced by the Federal Cartel Office. At first, the Post did not want to comment. According to a world report, former BMW and Deutsche Bank manager Stefan Krause is Odin’s largest shareholder.
The Streetscooter electric car company was founded in 2010 near the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. After Swiss Post learned about the start-up, Streetscooter changed saddles and developed a battery-operated mail and parcel carrier. In 2014, La Poste bought the start-up. It now has more than 15,000 street scooters used as an environmentally friendly alternative to diesel vans. However, the production of vehicles resulted in high losses; the search for a partner or a buyer was unsuccessful for a long time. Last year, the Post announced that production should be phased out in the future.
