Coronavirus – closure of a port in China – economy

Once again, a container port in China has shut down after an employee was infected with the coronavirus, and concerns about the disruption of already strained global supply chains are growing. The Ningbo Maidong terminal in the east of the country on Wednesday stopped loading and unloading goods. “All operations were immediately halted and the port area closed after the staff tested positive for Covid-19,” said the deputy director general of the port operator. Ningbo Zhoushan is the second largest container port in China after Shanghai. 18.68 million twenty-foot standard containers (TEUs) were handled there in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 17.1% over the same period of the previous year.
