Brexit is causing problems for the German confectionery industry. In the first three months of the year, export sales of cookies, chocolate and the like to the island fell 11.8% from the first quarter of 2020, said the Federal Association of German confectionery industry (BDSI). The negative effects of Britain’s exit from the EU now threaten to harm the German confectionery industry in the long term. Due to bureaucratic hurdles for suppliers at the border, the effort increases, which increases logistics costs. Small deliveries of goods were often no longer worth the effort. About five percent of German candy production depends on the UK market.
