Cartel office: more competition for charging stations
The Federal Cartel Office has campaigned for stronger competition in the charging power of electric cars. In the current phase, it is necessary to guarantee open and non-discriminatory market access, said the head of the authorities, Andreas Mundt, in an interim report on the infrastructure of charging stations. The public procurement instrument, especially at the municipal level, has so far been too little used. “In some cases, these areas are entirely or mostly allocated to one and the same operator, for example the municipal electricity company. During the “German network” of fast charging stations announced by Transport Minister Scheuer (CSU) in August, the competition authority notably criticized the project to set tariff ceilings for charging tariffs. This could displace existing or planned private offerings and thus prevent rapid expansion.
