Car maker – Daimler boosts profits despite chip crisis – economy

Auto and truck maker Daimler coped well with declining sales in the third quarter. The chip crisis affected sales, but profit attributable to shareholders was still generous at 2.47 billion euros. This corresponds to a 21% increase from the same period last year, as the company announced on Friday. At 40.1 billion euros, turnover is slightly lower than the previous year. Like most automakers, Daimler suffers from the current global chip shortage and recently had to cut production again and again. In the third quarter, for example, the group’s car brand, Mercedes-Benz, sold 30% fewer cars; including commercial vehicles, the decline was about a quarter.
