Apple: what the new iPhone 13 can do – economy

Apple is banking on better cameras and faster chips for its new iPhones. The iPhone 13 presented on Tuesday, which will be important in the next Christmas business, retains the design of the current generation with angular edges. The most noticeable external change, besides the new colors, is that the space at the top of the screen for cameras and facial recognition sensors has been reduced by 20%.

But there are some innovations inside. IPhones are powered by a new in-house developed chip, the A15 Bionic. Apple itself talks about the most powerful processor system in a smartphone. The computing power is used, among other things, to improve the night recordings of the upgraded cameras. There is also a “cinematic” video mode on newer devices, in which the software automatically focuses on different levels of the image depending on what is happening. For example, if the person in the foreground turns backwards, the lens focuses on the background in the direction they are looking. Apple was convinced that such functions could change the film industry as well.

The screens have also been revised to match. Among other things, the expensive iPhone Pro now also supports – like various competing smartphones – refresh rates of up to 120 Hertz. Big rival Samsung couldn’t resist a blow and pointed out in a tweet that its own devices have been able to do so for some time. At the same time, Apple only wants to get the power-hungry 120 Hertz when it’s needed for particularly dynamic scenes.

With better cameras and larger files, phones have more memory. In the base version, the iPhone 13 now has at least 128 gigabytes of memory, the Pro model up to 1 terabyte. There is also an iPhone 13 mini – it was sometimes assumed that Apple wanted to get rid of the smaller model because sales were still below expectations.

Each new generation of iPhone is extremely important to Apple. The smartphone is by far the most important product of the Group – and also the basis of business with other devices such as the Apple Watch computer clock or AirPods headphones. Industry analysts saw no problem for Apple after the new models were introduced. “From our point of view, there were no groundbreaking announcements,” said analyst Harsh Kumar of investment bank Sandler Paper. But he expects demand to remain high, thanks in part to premiums for older devices.

Apple also renews the iPad and iPad Mini

Apple took a big step forward last year with the iPhone 12 with a new design and support for 5G wireless fast data transmission. The new generation is not a significant update from last year’s iPhone, wrote analyst Amit Daryanani of financial firm Evercore. But the improved features “will make it an attractive product for the 900 million iPhone users who haven’t purchased the iPhone 12”.

While more than 80% of smartphones sold worldwide run on Google’s Android system, Apple has fought for a lucrative place in the rest of the market. Francisco Jeronimo of analytics firm IDC pointed out that Apple with the iPhone had a good 70 percent market share in high-end smartphones at over $ 800 – and the number of devices sold in the world. first half increased by a good third.

Most iPhones are traditionally sold in the Christmas neighborhood – and Apple recently ousted market leader Samsung again and again from the top spot. The iPhone brought in up to two-thirds of the company’s revenue. More recently, however, its share of sales has fallen below 50%, among other things because Mac computers and iPad tablets have become much more popular during the corona pandemic.

Apple Watch gets a bigger screen

Apple is now also renewing the iPad and the smaller iPad mini. The Apple Watch computer watch gets a slightly larger screen in the new generation of the Series 7 presented on Tuesday. As the bezel around the screen has been slimmed down, the case is only a little larger than the previous model. With more space, Apple can now, for the first time, type on a small onscreen keyboard.

Before the presentation, it was assumed that Apple wanted to radically change the design of the computer clock. It was said that it should be more angular instead of the previously rounded edges. But as the display gets bigger, the watch retains its characteristic shape. To develop its services business, Apple is launching its Fitness + training subscription in other countries, including Germany soon.
